Marry Me
It was the summer holidays and Jono and I are were on Waiheke for our usual family getaway. One morning he told me to get ready as he had arranged for us to have a picnic at one the vineyards. With picnic and bottle of Rose in hand, I had this butterfly feeling that something was coming! He picked a shaded spot on a hill underneath a huge Pohutakawa tree with the most breath-taking views. I was just about to start pouring a glass when he went on one knee and pulled out the ring. It was incredibly romantic and perfect in every way.
The Day
We were married on the 21st March 2020 which as it turned out would be the last wedding for the season! Choosing the venue for our wedding was a no brainer. Waiheke is such a special place to us both and it seemed so obvious to us that we would get married at Goldie Estate under the same iconic, Pohutakawa Tree where we were engaged. It is not as well known as some of the other vineyards on the Island but it has the most incredible landscapes and views, we knew this would make our wedding memorable.
Inspiration
We really wanted our wedding to stand the test of time. We chose to keep things
minimal and classic, with a few subtle modern twists. We loved drawing inspiration from content posted by The Together Journal and our incredible florist Blush who’s style I have always admired. Our colour palette was simple, drawing from the earthy tones of the vineyard to blend into the surroundings making everything feel very natural. My favourite last minute addition was our neon sign on the dance floor which was a huge hit with the guests and looked so awesome in the photos!
Expectations and Reality
I think there was so much pressure that I put on this one day being perfect, that I was so surprised at how easy and effortless it all felt. It quickly became apparent that we were surrounded by our closest family and friends and so the nerves disappeared. We genuinely just had an amazing time celebrating us and how far we have both come together.
From One Bride To Another
This is such an exciting time so enjoy every moment! Start planning early and
remember to relax and enjoy this creative process. The best choice we made was investing in a good photographer. Ours was incredible and we now have the most stunning photos to remember our wedding by. Lastly, remember to find small moments throughout the day to take a step back from
everything and look around at all the people who are there to celebrate with you both, it really will make all the difference.
Best Moment
If I could only choose one moment to relive, it would be walking down the aisle. This was one of the most magical feelings ever, turning the corner to see Jono waiting.
