Marry Me

We have always picnicked together, ever since our first date so it didn’t catch me off guard at all when Tom said he wanted to plan a picnic and all I had to do was be ready. We took off to Karekare Beach and Tom pulled out an extravagant menu containing foods we had loved over our 5 years together and notes from when we had shared them – the wine from our first date, brownies I used to send him when we lived apart etc. The last thing on the menu was the ‘Chefs Special’ - onion rings (he had always joked I had enough jewellery!) Next minute he on one knee and it was all go! He thought of everything, even booking the ‘Love Shack’ in Piha so we could stay in our little bubble all weekend.

The Day

Our wedding was March 2nd 2019 at Black Barn Vineyards. It’s our favourite place in Hawke’s Bay so it made the decision easy – however we knew we wanted to do it differently. We had our Ceremony at The Olive Shed, a gorgeous old shed by an olive grove and then moved up to the courtyard for our Reception dining al fresco under vines and fairy lights – it was perfect!

Inspiration

I loved taking inspiration from Together Journal and Hello May but really we just drew from the gorgeous surroundings. We didn’t really have a theme – just went for a romantic chic vibe. I knew I wouldn’t wear white the minute I saw the Lavant Gown from Hera Couture, so I stuck to a grey, navy and blush colour palette.

Expectations and Reality

I don’t know what I expected but wow, it went by so quickly - it’s all so overwhelming and hugely emotional. I wish I could’ve attended as a guest!

From One Bride To Another

Be organised! I had lists upon lists and honestly, not an ounce of stress. I absolutely adored the planning process and would do it again in a heartbeat (for someone else!) Just stick with your gut and ignore other’s opinions, apart from your mum, listen to her.

Best Moment

There are a couple of moments I absolutely adored – Tom and I did a ‘first look’ which was incredible. Seeing him standing there was just amazing and for the first time that day, it all felt so real. This also meant we could have an evening ceremony and spend more time with our guests which we loved. Walking down the aisle with my dad towards Tom was a moment I’ll never forget – I couldn’t look at anyone else! It was amazing. Lastly, seeing Mum and Dad so happy was so incredibly special – I also loved sharing the dance floor with those two lovebirds! I only hope we can have a marriage so successful.
