Marry Me
It was New Year’s Eve eve and we'd had a few too many drinks! Jay decided the next morning to take me for a walk on the beach in Mangawhai but I was extremely hungover! He tried hard for about two hours to persuade me to go with him and finally I caved.
We walked along the beach and I felt terrible! He told me to walk up a sand dune and I was like are you kidding me!?! We got to the top and I turned around and he was asking me to marry him! I instantly felt better and was so surprised and excited! It was a great end to the year and a new exciting chapter to start together!
The Big Day
Our wedding was at Mahurangi West Hall north of Auckland. It was significant as it was an old school hall and I am a teacher so thought that was a cool connection!
The date was the 13th of March 2021. The 13th is unlucky for some, but not for us! Jay was born on the 13th and it is also his lucky number, my lucky number is 21 so our date included them both!
The week of our wedding we had tsunami warnings and earthquakes and we were still in level 2 lockdown! The day before our wedding we moved into level one so we were extremely lucky!!
Inspiration
Rustic and boho style! I wanted our wedding to be simple but still beautiful. We used a lot of dried florals and rustic furniture and we also had our reception in a teepee which was a highlight for many guests as they had never been in one before!
I was inspired by a lot of weddings I had seen on Pinterest and YouTube and tried to put all the ideas I liked together as one!
From One Bride to Another
My advice to other brides to be: be super organised so you don’t have to stress out on the day! Get sunset photos as they turn out amazing, and organise something cute for you and your bridesmaids to do the night before! I organised a mobile nail technician to come to where we are staying and so it was really nice to be pampered the night before.
Best Moment
Walking down the aisle and our ceremony! It went so quickly! We would love to hear our celebrant talk about our love story again and see everyone’s reactions (as it was quite a funny ceremony) because we were too busy looking at each other! Also of course we would love to go back to the dance party afterwards!
